Summary
- Your photos and videos stay on your device. We never upload them anywhere.
- We do not operate any server and we hold no account for you.
- The app shows Google AdMob ads. Google collects device and advertising data to serve them.
- Your app password is stored on your device only. We cannot recover or reset it.
- Uninstalling the app removes the app’s private data from your device.
1. Who we are and what this policy covers
Clock (“the app”, “we”, “our”) is an Android application that works as a clock and as a private vault for storing photos and videos on your own device. This policy explains what information the app handles, what our advertising partner collects, and what choices you have.
This policy applies only to the Clock Android app distributed through Google Play. It does not cover any other app, website, or service.
2. Information that stays on your device
The following is stored in the app’s private storage area on your device. It is not transmitted to us, and we have no ability to read it:
- Photos and videos you add to the vault — the files you choose to import or capture, plus their file metadata such as name, size, dates, and dimensions.
- Your app password or PIN — created by you, stored locally. There is no recovery mechanism, because there is no server that holds it.
- App settings and preferences — such as your display choices and the timestamp used to keep the app ad-free for a period after you watch a rewarded ad.
- Photos and videos you capture in the app — if you use the camera feature, captured media is saved into the app’s storage.
We do not collect, transmit, or have access to any of the above.
3. Information collected by our advertising partner
The app displays advertisements supplied by Google AdMob. To serve, measure, and control the frequency of ads, Google’s advertising SDK collects information directly from your device. This includes:
- Your Advertising ID (a resettable identifier)
- IP address and derived approximate location (typically country or region level)
- Device information such as model, operating system version, language, and screen characteristics
- Ad interaction data such as ad requests, impressions, and clicks
- Diagnostic and performance information generated by the advertising SDK
This information is collected by Google as an independent data controller under its own policies. We receive only aggregated, non-identifying reporting, for example total impressions and estimated earnings. We never receive information that identifies you.
To understand how Google uses this data, please read How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Rewarded ads
The app offers an optional rewarded ad. If you choose to watch it, the app records a timestamp locally so that it can stay ad-free for a limited period afterwards. Watching a rewarded ad is voluntary and the timestamp never leaves your device.
4. What we do not do
- We do not upload, back up, or synchronise your photos and videos to any cloud or server.
- We do not operate a server, user account system, or login.
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not include a separate analytics or crash-reporting service in the app.
- We do not collect your contacts, precise GPS location, call logs, SMS messages, or health data.
- We do not use your content to train any model.
5. Permissions the app requests, and why
Android asks for your consent before granting sensitive permissions. You can refuse or later revoke any of them in Settings → Apps → Clock → Permissions; some features will then stop working.
| Permission | Why the app needs it |
|---|---|
Photos and videosREAD_MEDIA_IMAGES, READ_MEDIA_VIDEO, READ_MEDIA_VISUAL_USER_SELECTED | To let you browse and import the photos and videos you select into the vault. |
Storage (Android 12 and older)READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE, WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE | The equivalent of the above on older Android versions, and to save files you export. |
CameraCAMERA | Only when you choose to capture a new photo or video inside the app. The camera is never used in the background. |
Internet and network stateINTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE | Required to load advertisements and to check whether a connection is available. Your vault content is never sent over the network. |
Advertising IDAD_ID | Used by Google AdMob to serve and measure ads, as described in section 3. |
NotificationsPOST_NOTIFICATIONS | To show notifications for app activity such as a completed export. |
BluetoothBLUETOOTH, BLUETOOTH_CONNECT | To route audio to a connected Bluetooth device during media playback. It is never used to determine your location. |
Keep device awakeWAKE_LOCK | To prevent the screen from sleeping during video playback and while a long export is running. |
6. How your information is stored and protected
We want to be precise here rather than reassuring:
- Your vault content is stored in the app’s private storage directory. On Android, this area is sandboxed by the operating system so that other installed apps cannot read it.
- Access to the app is protected by the password or PIN you set.
- Most modern Android devices apply full-disk or file-based encryption at the operating system level when a screen lock is set. That protection comes from your device, not from the app.
- The app does not apply its own additional layer of encryption to your files. Anyone with physical access to an unlocked device, or with administrative access to the device’s file system, could potentially reach the files.
- Network traffic for advertising uses secure HTTPS connections provided by the Google advertising SDK.
No method of storage is completely secure. Please keep a device screen lock enabled, keep your Android version up to date, and keep separate backups of anything irreplaceable.
7. Sharing and disclosure
We do not share your personal content with anyone. The only third party that receives data is Google, in its role as our advertising provider, as described in section 3.
Because we do not hold your data on any server, we cannot disclose it to authorities or any other party, even if we were required to.
8. Retention and deletion
- You control retention. Content remains on your device until you delete it.
- Delete individual items from within the app at any time.
- Delete everything by clearing the app’s storage in Settings → Apps → Clock → Storage → Clear storage, or by uninstalling the app. Both remove the app’s private data, including your password. This cannot be undone.
- We hold nothing to delete. Since no data reaches us, there is no server-side deletion to request.
- Advertising data held by Google is retained according to Google’s own policies. See the Google links in section 3.
9. Your choices about advertising
- Reset or delete your Advertising ID in Settings → Google → All services → Ads.
- Opt out of ad personalisation in the same Android settings screen. You will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you.
- Consent for users in the EEA, UK, and Switzerland. Where required, the app presents a Google-certified consent message before personalised advertising is used, and you may withdraw or change your choice at any time through the app’s privacy option.
10. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your personal data, to object to processing, or to withdraw consent.
For your vault content these rights are exercised directly on your device, because you already hold and control all of it and we hold none of it. For advertising data, the controller is Google, so requests should be directed to Google using the links in section 3, or handled through the Android advertising settings in section 9.
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are a California resident, note that we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined by the CCPA and CPRA.
11. Children’s privacy
This app is not intended for children under 13, and its Google Play target audience is set accordingly. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided such information, please contact us and we will assist as far as we are able, although in practice all such data would reside solely on the child’s own device.
12. International users
The app itself processes data only on your device, so no international transfer takes place on our side. Advertising data collected by Google may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own, under the safeguards described in Google’s privacy policy.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example when a feature or an advertising partner changes. The revised version will be posted on this page with a new “Last updated” date. Significant changes will be highlighted at the top of this page. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised policy.
